The South Coast of Jamaica is comprised of a wonderful mixture of quiet villages and large towns,of beautiful secluded beaches, waterfalls, fishing villages and lots of attractions to enjoy. The area is currently enjoying an increase in its popularity but still retains its off the beaten track appeal.
The most popular towns are Mandeville, Black River, Whitehouse and Treasure Beach.
Mandeville is one of Jamaica's most affluent towns and has one of the highest standards of living. Here you can enjoy all that a large town has to offer. It is also one of the coolest places in Jamaica, located 2000 ft above sea level..
Black River is a quiet town with beautiful historical buildings. It is also home to Jamaica's second longest river and a vast marshland. Many tours and attractions are available here.
Whitehouse is primarily known as a fishing town although it has seen a lot of recent development including the opening of the only All Inclusive on the South Coast. Many hotels, restaurants and local homes along the South Coast get their seafood supply from Whitehouse.
Treasure Beach is a wonderful area which has alot of unique hotels and restaurants. It is a catchall name for four beaches: Frenchman's Bay, Great Pedro Bay, Billy's Bay, and Calabash Bay. Fishing is also still an integral part of the local economy.
Other popular areas and attractions along the South Coast include YS Falls, Lovers Leap, Bluefields Bay, Milk River Mineral Bath, Bamboo Avenue and Appleton Rum Estate.
Jamaica's South Coast attracts the adventure-oriented visitor and those who want seclusion and tranquility. This undiscovered part of Jamaica will probably be developed on a large scale in the years to come but for now its still remains largely unchanged by time.
